Antique Pine Floor Restoration

Gloucester, Massachusetts

Designed by renowned interior designer Henry David Sleeper in the early years of the 20th century, this home on Gloucester's picturesque Back Shore is an architectural composite of much older structures. This wide-board pine floor, for example, was taken from the remnants of a more ancient building, and the layers of 100 year-old varnish and prior repairs had all but worn away in many places. We used a meticulous, delicate stripping process to repair the damaged boards and incorporated a hybrid of traditional and modern materials to restore the original strong, radiant color while being mindful of historical correctness and future reversibility.
